If you haven't specified
or already used FORTA-FI® high-tensile strength fibers in an asphalt project,
you may have questions about adding the fiber at the asphalt production
facility. There are a variety of ways to
introduce FORTA-FI® into the job-mix formula, as long as the proper dosing rate
(1 lb. of fiber per 1 ton of asphalt) is maintained throughout the production
cycle.
Three-dimensionally
reinforcing asphalt with FORTA-FI® can be as simple as manually adding it
(pre-packaged in 1 lb. bags) at the RAP chute in drum plants or into the pug
mill in batch plants. The heat and
mixing action inside the plant allow the FORTA-FI fiber to distribute
throughout the mix. The fiber can also
be manually blown into the drum plant without the bag using a simple Little
Shot air vortex system, or kept in the bag at a batch plant using the Big Shot
method.
Larger tonnage projects
may require the use of computer-controlled fiber metering devices, such as the
Hi-Tech Asphalt Solutions line of 4KF and 10KF machines. This equipment is designed to accurately dose
1 lb./1 ton increments of fiber into asphalt material, and the fiber is
conveniently packaged in 700 lb. boxes to minimize handling and staging
requirements.
From driveways to super
highways, regardless of the size of the asphalt paving project, you can Go
Stronger...Go Longer by adding FORTA-FI® to the mix!
