ADDING FORTA-FI FIBER AT THE ASPHALT PLANT

If you haven't specified or already used FORTA-FI® high-tensile strength fibers in an asphalt project, you may have questions about adding the fiber at the asphalt production facility.  There are a variety of ways to introduce FORTA-FI® into the job-mix formula, as long as the proper dosing rate (1 lb. of fiber per 1 ton of asphalt) is maintained throughout the production cycle.

Three-dimensionally reinforcing asphalt with FORTA-FI® can be as simple as manually adding it (pre-packaged in 1 lb. bags) at the RAP chute in drum plants or into the pug mill in batch plants.  The heat and mixing action inside the plant allow the FORTA-FI fiber to distribute throughout the mix.  The fiber can also be manually blown into the drum plant without the bag using a simple Little Shot air vortex system, or kept in the bag at a batch plant using the Big Shot method.

Larger tonnage projects may require the use of computer-controlled fiber metering devices, such as the Hi-Tech Asphalt Solutions line of 4KF and 10KF machines.  This equipment is designed to accurately dose 1 lb./1 ton increments of fiber into asphalt material, and the fiber is conveniently packaged in 700 lb. boxes to minimize handling and staging requirements.

From driveways to super highways, regardless of the size of the asphalt paving project, you can Go Stronger...Go Longer by adding FORTA-FI® to the mix!

TIME, MONEY & SERVICE LIFE

An extra year or two of service life on a paving placement can mean big savings!  Pavement preservation is a constant issue with state DOTs, county engineers, city managers, and private owners as they struggle to control costs.  When to patch?  When to crack seal?  When to mill and replace?

Consider three-dimension-ally reinforcing your next asphalt placement with FORTA-FI® high-tensile strength fiber!  FORTA-FI® can help your asphalt project resist premature thermal, fatigue, and reflective cracking as well as rutting.  Affordable and simple to add at the production plant, millions of FORTA-FI® fibers mix throughout your job-mix formula to add strength and durability to roadways, airfields, parking lots, and cart/bike/walking paths.  The reinforcing properties of FORTA-FI® can mean extended service life for your project, and when it comes to asphalt paving time equals money!

VALUE ADDED & FIBER REINFORCED

Engineers and architects design projects using innovative ideas and products while focusing on delivering outstanding value to their clients.  In some cases firms help to offset their professional fees by incorporating 'cutting edge' concepts into the project designed to reduce operating costs and deliver value back to the owner 'over time.'  You probably never considered a construction material like asphalt could be used in this manner, but it most certainly can!

FORTA-FI® high-tensile strength fiber for asphalt helps roadways, airfields, parking lots, driveways and bicycle/walking trails perform better and last longer than traditional asphalt placements.  Millions of FORTA-FI® fibers distributed throughout the asphalt paving material increases the strength and durability of the mat, while helping it resist premature cracking and rutting.  FORTA-FI® can also allow for thinner placement designs, saving money upfront on material costs while still achieving similar design life.  Going Longer...Going Stronger with FORTA-FI® is an affordable way to add value to your next asphalt project, and there are many ways in which 100% recyclable asphalt material meets your green building goals!

BUILDING GREENER ROADWAYS & PARKING LOTS WITH FORTA-FI

If you are a project owner, an engineer, or an architect involved in a green building project, have you considered ways to make your access roads and parking lots both greener and longer-lasting?  How about using an innovative fiber-reinforcement for asphalt product that can allow you to reduce material thicknesses without compromising design life?

FORTA-FI® is a cost-effective way to three-dimensionally reinforce asphalt placements (roads, parking lots, sidewalks) to help them resist premature aging and the ravages of thermal, reflective, and fatigue cracking.  Millions of high-tensile strength aramid fibers in FORTA-FI® add strength, toughness, and durability to every ton of asphalt used in a typical asphalt project design, and thicknesses may be reduced up to 35% with similar design life!

FORTA-FI® can easily be blended into most job-mix formulas right at the asphalt production facility.  Both drum plants and batch plants can add FORTA-FI® at a rate of 1 lb. of fiber per 1 ton of asphalt, and no modifications are required to standard paving and compaction practices.

Going Longer…Going Stronger with FORTA-FI® is a unique way to innovate your project design, reduce your material costs, and minimize your carbon footprint!  Porous asphalt mix designs can be fiber-reinforced, too!

Consider using FORTA-FI® to reduce the amount of material needed for the hardscape areas in your design!
